ORIGINAL RULES

Listen to over 100 years of music hits and take turns guessing when they were released. You don´t need to know the exact year, only if they were released before or after other songs. Your chances of winning increases if you can also name the artists and song titles.

The first player to arrange 10 hits in chronological order wins the game and earns the title HITSTER

PREPARATIONS

1. Choose a DJ.

2. Decide if you’re playing in teams or individually.

3. Draw 1 music card and 3 HITSTER cards each and place them in front of you face up.

1. The DJ plays a song

For instructions how to play the music, click here.

2. Position the music card

The player to the left of the DJ starts. He/she guesses when the song* was released** by placing the music card to the left/right of the music cards in front of him/her.

3. Flip the music card

Flip the music card to see if the player was correct. If so, the player keeps the music card, otherwise the card is lost. Now the DJ plays a new song and it´s the next players turn.

* Definition of song version: The version of the song that you hear playing.

Please note that the original recording of a song might not be available on all music streaming services. If that is the case, the year we are seeking is still the year that artist first released that song. In addition, sometimes songs have been remastered and the original song is no longer available. On such occasion, it is the original song release year that we are looking for, not the year it was remastered.

** Definition of year: The year the song was first digitally (download or stream) or physically (single or album) available to the public on any market.

THE HITSTER CARDS

hitster cards

Remember the HITSTER cards?
They can do 3 awesome things!

1. On your turn

Is the song too hard? Play a HITSTER card and the DJ will play you a new song. A used HITSTER card is expended.

2. On an opponents turn

Do you suspect that the player has misplaced a music card? Before the music card is flipped, place a HITSTER card on the players array of music cards in the position you think is correct. If you were right, put the music card on the correct position on your own array of music cards. A used HITSTER card is expended. Only one challenge per possible card position.

3. Anytime

Trade 3 HITSTER cards for 1 music card and place it on your array of music cards (you don´t need to guess the year to earn it).

SO, HOW DO YOU EARN NEW HITSTER CARDS?

You get a new HITSTER card if you, on your turn can name the correct artist and song title.

HOW TO WIN

The first player to get 10 hits in chronological order wins the game and earns the title HITSTER. Good luck!

JAMMING RULES

How about a less competitive trip down memory lane? HITSTER can also be played in collaborative mode as ONE team.

Listen to over 100 years of music and guess when the songs were released. You don’t need to know the exact year – only if it’s before or after other songs.

Follow the ORIGINAL game rules with the following exceptions:

  • Form a team and take 3 HITSTER cards and 1 music card from the deck and place it face up to start your shared timeline.
  • Scan a music card from the box and together with your team try to place it in the correct spot on the timeline.
  • Flip over the card to check if you were correct. If so keep the card, otherwise discard the music card together with one of your HITSTER cards.
  • Try to collect 10 music cards on the timeline before you run out of HITSTER cards.

TIP: You can reduce the number of HITSTER cards for a more challenging game or go for a high score by trying to collect as many music cards as you can before you run out of HITSTER cards.
