Marvin Gaye – I Heard It Through The Grapevine (1968)

Song

Marvin Gaye

1968

Artist

I heard it through the grapevine

Did you know that...

Hearing about something through the grapevine means that you’re hearing a rumor.

Barrett Strong got the idea for the track when he was living in Chicago and often heard the expression: “Nobody wrote a song about it, so I sat at a piano and came up with the bass line.”

Creedence Clearwater Revival later released their own 11-minute version of the song in 1970. It’s one of very few recorded Creedence songs which the band didn’t write themselves.
