Fontella Bass – Rescue Me (1965)

During the recording, Bass forgot the lyrics at a few points. Back in the 1960s, it would have been difficult to stop the recording while the tape was rolling, so she did what she’d learned from gospel and sang “ummm, ummm, ummm”.
